About Me

My blog is still pretty small, but I wanted to make my ‘About Me’ a bit longer than what I had written in my very first post. After all, I realised that one of the first things I do when I look at someone’s blog is read the info they provide about themselves. It makes things so much more interesting to know about the person as you read their blog posts!

So (this is going to get lengthy!):

My name is Becca, I’m 30, and I live in a city at the bottom of the world- Dunedin, NZ to be precise. I teach a science subject at the university here, and I’m lucky enough that I can pretty much paint my nails however I want- no workplace rules about keeping it to beiges and pinks. I’m not sure what I’d do if I had to ever tone down my nails!

I’ve had an on-off relationship with polish since I was a teen, mostly because I never learnt how to properly look after and paint my nails, and because I’m a chronic nail biter. I had a brief stint of painting my nails regularly when I was in Grad School (easy access to lab grade acetone made removing polish a dream!) but then went back to my nail nibbling ways.

Then about a year ago, I stumbled across OPI polishes, and realised that the colours would look much nicer on healthy nails. I have a tendency to grow them long, then clip them short to grow them again, rather than file them to a consistent length, so my pictures won’t look very similar depending on what part of the long-short cycle I’m at.

I’m really into Indie polishes at the moment- there are so many gorgeous ones, plus they’re great value! Polish from regular shops is very expensive here in NZ which I’m still struggling to get used to (I lived in the UK for a decade, and while not as cheap as the US, the polishes there were cheaper than here!) but with so many amazing Indie brands available, my polish collection is still expanding at a ridiculous rate!

In my spare time, when I’m not painting my nails, or blogging, you’ll probably find me curled up on the sofa watching movies and TV shows with my roommate, doing something art-y or craft-y, playing with our six budgies (who’re all named after characters from the Avengers comics) or trying to write a novel.

If you have any questions, ask me in a comment, and I’ll do my best to answer/put it in the FAQs I’m currently working on.
